civitas Achaiae, a cultu terrae sic dicta, alias Patrae, Steph. Aroa Pausaniae, in Achaicis, sic enim ille: Πατρέων οἱ τὰ αρχαιότατα μνημονεύοντες, φασὶν Εὔμηλον αὐτόχθονα οἰκῆσαι πρῶτον εν τῇ χώρα. Τριπτολέμου δὲ εν τῆς Α᾿ττικῆς ἀφικομένου, τὸν τε καρπὸν λαμβάνει τὸν ἥμερον, καὶ οἰκῆσαι διδαχθεὶς πόλιν, Α᾿ρόαν ὠνόμασεν, ἐπὶ τῇ ἐργασία τῆς γῆς. Α᾿ροῦν enim et αὔλακ᾿ ἐλαύνειν Poetis de tota ἐργασίᾳ τῆς γῆς sumitur. Huius mentio apud Tzetzem in Ε῎ργα Hesiodi. Eius mentio est in numismate antiquo Caracallae imperatoris cuius haec Inscr. COL A.
